10 Signs You Should Replace Your Windows

Your windows obviously serve an important function as part of the structure of your home, and so you need to know how to determine whether or not they need to be replaced.

Fortunately, the windows manufactured today offer plenty of bang for your buck, which means that you won’t have to worry about replacing them for perhaps decades. But if you do live in your home for that long – or if you buy a home with windows that are close to or past their best-before date – then you might have to replace some windows.

With that said, do you know how to decide if you need new windows or if you can get a few more years out of the ones you already have installed? For your information, here are 10 signs you should replace your windows.

  1. Damage: Water stains, chipping and any sort of deterioration are evidence that your windows need to be replaced.
  2. Outside Noise: You shouldn’t hear outside noise after you close your window. If you do hear such noise, then your windows aren’t providing the acoustic insulation that they’re supposed to, which means that replacement windows are in order.
  3. Drafts: If you can feel drafts around the window region, then it’s likely time to change them. Failing to do so can cost you big time in terms of heating bills and cooling bills.
  4. Single Pane Windows: If your house was constructed pre-1970s and the windows haven’t been changed since then, you probably have single pane windows. The windows available today are much more durable – think double pane and triple pane – so it’s worth upgrading from single pane.
  5. Difficult to Clean: If your older windows are hard to clean, then it might be time for an upgrade. The newer windows are manufactured in a way that makes them a snap to clean.
  6. Hard to Operate: You know you need to consider replacing your windows when they become hard to open or shut.
  7. Signs of the Times: If you see condensation or frost accumulation on your windows, then you can be sure that they’re no longer providing the protection that they should.
  8. Fading Furniture: Windows are supposed to block ultraviolet rays from getting into your dwelling. If your furniture starts to fade, then you can be sure that your existing windows are no longer adequate.
  9. Aesthetics: If your windows are not up to par, they will bring down the aesthetic appeal of your home. So it makes sense to address this situation sooner rather than later.
  10. Maintenance: Maintaining older windows can be a chore since it might be challenging to find replacement components. In such cases, switching them for new windows is in order.

Windows are an important aspect of your home. If you see any of the aforementioned problems with any of your windows, then it’s time to consider replacing them.
